Born on 6th July, 1985 in Mumbai, Ranveer Singh is an Indian actor working in Bollywood.. While pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University (Bloomington), Singh became interested in acting and after coming back to India, he started auditioning for lead roles in the Hindi film industry. In 2010, Singh auditioned for the lead role in the Yash Raj Films venture called Band Baaja Baaraat, and got selected. The director of the film, Maneesh Sharma, sent him to the Delhi University campus during the recce of the film, and from there Singh drew his inspiration for the character.He went on to win the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut award and several other debutant awards. He had studied creative writing and thus had worked as a copywriter with agencies like O&M and JWT. He was again paired opposite Anushka Sharma in Yash Raj Films’ Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl in 2011. Singh's next release was Lootera (2013), a period romance, written and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, and co-starring Sonakshi Sinha. Lootera was critically acclaimed but performed poorly at the box office. Singh next starred alongside Deepika Padukone in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, entitled Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, in which he played Ram, a Gujarati boy based on the character of Romeo. His next release Gunday in 2014 alongside Arjun Kapoor emerged successful with his chemistry with Arjun appreciated a lot. After a cameo appearance in Finding Fanny, Singh starred as a gangster in Shaad Ali's unsuccessful crime drama Kill Dil opposite Parineeti Chopra and Ali Zafar. In Zoya Akhtar's ensemble comedy-drama Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Singh starred with Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah and Priyanka Chopra as the younger sibling of a dysfunctional Punjabi family. Right now Singh is focused on his latest project opposite rumoured girlfriend Deepika Padukone, Bajirao Mastani where he plays the Marathi warrior Baji Rao I.
